Pregnancy
Alive and Growing!
Human life begins at conception-the moment when the male
sperm and female egg unite to form a new, unique human being
In the entire history of time, there has never been, nor will
there ever be another human exactly like this one...
Day One - The new life receives 23 chromosomes from the
mother and 23 from the father. Contained in this single cell is
the genetic blueprint for the child's development, including sex,
hair, skin and eye color. Every human being who ever lived
began his or her life as a single cell...
Day 1-4 - The fertilized egg begins to divide. One cell becomes two, two
becomes four, four become eight, doubling each time. By the time the
new life reaches the end of the fallopian tube, she has grown considerably.
Her cells number about 100 and by week two will begin to specialize.

Day 5-9 - Implantation - The growing child (now called a blastocyst)
bounces along the uterine wall looking for a spot to implant. Sometimes
she takes as many as three days to decide on a spot before attaching
herself to the wall of her mother's womb. Implantation sends a chemical
signal which stops her mother's menstrual period.
